Lithium battery concept stocks are trading broadly lower in Hong Kong this session, with several major players seeing significant declines.

As of the latest update, Ganfeng Lithium Group Co., Ltd. (01772) has fallen 5.09% to HK$38.42, while CATL (03750) is down 4.14% to HK$567.50. Tianqi Lithium Corporation (09696) has dropped 4.10% to HK$36.04, and CALB (03931) has slipped 3.64% to HK$16.43.

On the news front, China's Ministry of Commerce and two other government departments have jointly issued the Guidelines on Overseas Competitive Conduct and Compliance for the Automotive Industry. The document aims to guide automakers in standardizing their overseas market practices, enhancing compliance across cross-border operations, and supporting the healthy international expansion of the automotive sector.

Analysts suggest that as automakers broaden their overseas footprint, Chinese brands are set to accelerate toward more regulated and standardized development, driven by ongoing channel expansion and an increasingly diverse product lineup.

Meanwhile, the Yichun Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment issued a statement on August 26 announcing the withdrawal of a proposed public notice regarding an environmental assessment, citing public concerns about the preliminary disclosure website of the construction unit. A revised notice will be released once all requirements are met.

According to Founder Securities, the repeated back-and-forth in the approval process for the Jianxiawo lithium mine reflects the significant controversy surrounding the project. Following the withdrawal of the environmental assessment acceptance notice, the timeline for resuming production at Jianxiawo is likely to be postponed further. The brokerage added that the project's potential impact on lithium supply in 2026 may be more limited than initially expected.
