Sembcorp Industries has won a bid to build an approximately 86 megawatt-peak (MWp) floating solar photovoltaic (PV) system on Pandan Reservoir.

The project, awarded by national water agency PUB to Sembcorp’s wholly-owned subsidiary Sembcorp Solar Singapore, marks Sembcorp’s third floating solar project in Singapore. PUB launched the tender in June 2024.

In 2021, Sembcorp completed Singapore’s first large-scale inland floating solar farm at Tengeh Reservoir, a 60MWp project that was among the “world’s largest” single floating solar PV systems at the time.

Earlier this year, the group also signed a 25-year renewable energy purchase agreement with Malkoha, a subsidiary of Meta Platforms, to build, own and operate a 150MWp floating solar farm on Kranji Reservoir. This is the largest floating solar project of its kind in Singapore.

In total, Sembcorp now has over 1 gigawatt-peak (GWp) of solar capacity and over 300 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy storage in its Singapore portfolio, which is in line with the nation’s green target of achieving 2GWp of renewable energy by 2030.

Globally, Sembcorp’s renewable energy capacity stands at 18.9 gigawatts (GW).

Sembcorp Solar Singapore CEO Jen Tan says: “Floating solar projects, such as those at Pandan, Tengeh and Kranji Reservoirs are vital for Singapore’s land-scarce energy landscape.”

She adds: “As a leading developer of inland floating solar farms in Singapore, Sembcorp continues to demonstrate its expertise and leadership in advancing differentiated renewable projects in Singapore and the region.”

As at 2.21pm, shares in Sembcorp Industries are trading flat at $6.07.
