Recently, residents in Guiyang’s Yunyan District reported that a public lawn near the China Vanke Co.,Ltd. (Vanke) Lushan residential community had been converted into a vegetable garden. The unauthorized farming not only damaged urban greenery but also caused odor issues due to fertilizer use, disturbing nearby residents.

A resident, Mr. Zhou, stated that the area near Vanke Lushan’s Zone A, adjacent to Baihua Avenue, was originally a well-maintained lawn. However, some individuals have started cultivating the greenbelt, planting vegetables like bok choy and scallions. The activity has negatively impacted the streetscape and created unpleasant smells for surrounding households.

An on-site inspection revealed that the affected plot, approximately 500 square meters, lies between the Vanke Lushan community and Baihua Avenue. Signs of soil tilling were evident, and makeshift fencing around the area was partially damaged, allowing unrestricted access.

Vanke Lushan’s property management explained that the land falls outside their jurisdiction as it is part of a municipal road setback zone. Consequently, they lack authority to intervene in the unauthorized farming.

To address the issue, local authorities from Yunyan District’s Mawang Subdistrict Office have issued notices, requiring residents to remove their crops within three days. The office has also intensified public awareness efforts to prevent further unauthorized farming.

The subdistrict office is coordinating with the Yunyan District Natural Resources Bureau to clarify land ownership before implementing long-term management measures. Further updates will be monitored.
