The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), a major U.S. public power provider, has signed an agreement with ENTRA1 Energy, a strategic partner of NuScale Power (SMR.US), to develop small modular reactor (SMR) projects with a total capacity of 6 gigawatts across multiple locations within TVA's service territory. This represents the largest SMR deployment plan in the United States to date.

Under the agreement, ENTRA1 Energy will deploy small modular reactor technology developed by NuScale Power, with the capacity expected to power approximately 4.5 million households or 60 new data centers. All generated electricity will be sold to TVA through future power purchase agreements, though specific commissioning timelines have not yet been disclosed.

This collaboration marks the latest initiative in TVA's accelerated nuclear energy expansion. The authority is also working with Google (GOOGL.US) and Kairos Power on plans to connect 50 megawatts of SMR capacity to the grid by 2030, while also planning to construct its own SMR facility at the Clinch River Nuclear Site in Tennessee.

"The agreement with ENTRA1 Energy highlights the critical role of public-private partnerships in advancing next-generation nuclear technology, which is essential for ensuring energy security," emphasized TVA President and CEO Don Mohl.

The project represents significant progress in the United States' push toward commercial deployment of small modular reactors, a technology viewed as a complementary solution to traditional nuclear power due to its flexibility, safety features, and scalability potential.

NuScale Power shares closed up 7.6% at $37.24 on Tuesday.
