On the evening of August 18th, Meituan held its 2025 Top 100 Hairdressers Ecological Conference in Shanghai. During the event, Meituan Service Retail partnered with the China Commercial Technician Association, three hair salon brands, and 11 industry organizations to establish the Craftsman Growth Alliance. The company unveiled its first nationwide support initiative for hairdressers, encompassing multiple aspects including online operation course development for craftsmen, digital portfolio creation, online operation support, and the prestigious Top 100 Hairdressers ranking recognition.
Chen Yifang, head of Meituan Service Retail's Happy Life business division, stated that the platform aims to leverage online digitalization support and professional advancement of practitioners to transform good craftsmanship into profitable business, helping more craftsmen achieve "reliable skills, substantial income, and promising development prospects."
According to reports, nearly 300,000 hairdressers have generated income through Meituan since 2024. Meituan data reveals that over the past year, works created by hairdressers experienced a 260% year-over-year increase in platform traffic, positioning Meituan as a primary business platform for craftsmen. Simultaneously, Meituan has become a significant gateway for young consumers' beauty industry spending, with new demographics driving industry transformation and business growth. Platform data shows that users under 30 account for 59% of the user base, with over 36% being post-2000 generation consumers. Post-2000 and post-1995 consumers exhibit distinctive consumption characteristics including self-care spending, diverse demands, and instant consumption preferences. The accelerated digitalization of beauty services, including hairdressers, represents a rapid approach to connecting with young consumers. As an industry facilitator, Meituan connects more consumer demand through digitalization. For instance, hair salon brand Fujino Styling has achieved 100% online integration with a 52% increase in annual transaction orders.
Chen Yifang noted that this year marks the first expansion of the "Top 100 Hairdressers" ranking to 58 cities nationwide, featuring 4,500 hairdressers on the list. The platform will provide enhanced career advancement support for craftsmen, transforming their skills into "living brand endorsements." The launch of the "Top 100 Hairdressers" ranking is just the beginning, as all craftsmen in the service retail industry deserve recognition. Meituan will continue advancing craftsman ecosystem development, ensuring that hairdressers' exceptional skills generate good income while facilitating career progression and long-term development opportunities.
