The "Warm Love Action" public welfare elderly care project, part of the rural revitalization initiative, was implemented by the Zhaotong Huiai Social Work Service Center with public welfare resources linked from the Shanghai Yikesong Public Welfare Foundation.
The project was launched in four communities 鈥?Wangjiang Community, Qiujiayu Community, Anlan Community, and Baihe Community 鈥?in March of this year, and all services were successfully completed by September, marking a full conclusion of the project.
Grounded in the real needs of elderly residents in the area, the project delivered professional social work services across four major components: collective themed activities, door-to-door companionship visits, volunteer capacity building, and life story interviews.
Over more than seven months of implementation, the four communities carried out a total of 37 elderly care service activities, serving 1,592 elderly residents. The project brought spiritual comfort, entertainment, and health care to the doorsteps of seniors, building a spiritual home for neighborhood interaction among community elderly groups and effectively helping to improve the quality and efficiency of grassroots community governance.
Anlan Community: Silver-haired seniors showcase their style, old objects preserve memories of the years
On September 11, Anlan Community held a closing event themed "Silver-Haired Fashion, I'm the Brightest on the T台." Social workers reviewed the project's service achievements on site, and elderly community volunteer leaders performed a qipao umbrella dance, showcasing the positive spirit of seniors in the new era. The event innovatively featured a nostalgic old objects T台 show, where seniors walked the runway carrying farming tools such as back baskets and old book baskets. Each old object bearing the marks of its era told stories of the older generation's struggles and passed on local memories. A photo exhibition of project services was set up on site, and seniors stopped to look back at warm moments from their participation. The event concluded with everyone singing "Ode to the Motherland," bringing the community's project to a close amid resounding song.
Baihe Community: Health garden party protects elderly years, free clinics and health education brought to doorsteps
In response to the reality that elderly residents in the area have limited mobility and limited access to health education channels, Baihe Community held a "Warm Love Companion, Health Escort" elderly health garden party on September 16, serving 10 seniors over the age of 60. The project partnered with Qiaojia Ren'an Hospital to bring convenient free clinic services into the community. Medical staff measured blood pressure and blood sugar for seniors on site, popularized health care knowledge for the elderly, and answered their questions. The event also included a health flower tea packaging experience, where social workers explained the health benefits of ingredients such as red dates, goji berries, roses, and dried tangerine peel. Everyone packed tea bags by hand, learning home health care tips through practice. Many seniors remarked that since the Warm Love Action began, health classes and fun activities have been continuous, making their later years more fulfilling and enriched.
Qiujiayu Community: Fun garden party brings neighbors together, vegetable and fruit redemption brings autumn warmth
On September 18, Qiujiayu Community held a fun garden party closing event, with 87 community seniors gathering together. The garden party featured low-intensity games suitable for elderly groups, including ring toss, pitch-pot, blind drumming, and blowing ping-pong balls. Seniors participated in an orderly manner with stamp cards, and laughter filled the scene. After the games, participants redeemed their stamps for seasonal fresh vegetables and fruits such as green onions, pumpkins, and cabbage, each going home fully loaded. Many elderly residents living alone said that through project activities they were able to leave their homes, have a place to chat and make friends, and truly feel the care and warmth from society.
Wangjiang Community: Warm Mid-Autumn gathering of old friends, classic songs celebrate the beauty of sunset years
On September 21, Wangjiang Community held a "Warm Mid-Autumn, Singing the Sunset" Mid-Autumn concert in conjunction with the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival, with 72 community seniors gathering together to celebrate. The event opened with rhythm games, where social workers led seniors in stretching exercises to bring neighbors closer. A nostalgic local game called "Herd the Pig into the Pen" evoked memories of the past for the seniors. Classic songs of the era were performed one after another, including "On the Golden Mountain of Beijing," "The Three Main Rules of Discipline," and "Nanniwan," filling the room with warmth. Everyone sang "The Moon of the Fifteenth" together, with melodious singing filling the entire activity room. Seniors reminisced about past years through song and experienced the atmosphere of traditional festivals amid neighborhood gatherings, gaining companionship and comfort.
From spring door-to-door visits to summer neighborhood gatherings and then to the autumn series of closing activities, the "Warm Love Action" balanced material care with spiritual comfort. It carried out group entertainment activities such as garden parties, cultural performances, and nostalgic singing, while also delivering refined services including door-to-door visits, life story interviews with seniors, and health education. The project guided empty-nest and solitary elderly residents to step out of their homes, built a platform for neighborhood interaction, alleviated spiritual loneliness among elderly groups, and promoted the realization of "living happily in old age."
The project has concluded, but care does not stop. Next, the Qiaojia County Civil Affairs Bureau will continue to uphold the work philosophy of "civil affairs for the people, civil affairs loving the people," continue to link resources from multiple parties including charitable public welfare organizations, social organizations, and volunteer services, continuously expand community elderly care service content, deepen and solidify visit and care services for elderly people with special difficulties, summarize and refine replicable social work elderly care service experience from this project, further enrich community home-based elderly care service supply, and earnestly safeguard the happy later years of elderly residents in the area, ensuring they live in peace and happiness in old age, while continuously enhancing their sense of fulfillment, happiness, and security.
