"Before, I had to endure discomfort alone, but now with a simple press on the smartwatch, I can reach out for help and monitor my health anytime. It’s truly solved my problems," said Li Kuanxin, a resident of Tangnihe Village in Yijun County’s Kuquan Town.
This year, Yijun County’s civil affairs system has distributed smartwatches to all 410 decentralized special-needs support recipients, establishing a digital care system featuring "real-time monitoring and one-touch precision services." This initiative elevates the basic safety net to a new level of "well-being support."
Li Kuanxin, 53, lives with a disability due to an illness in his youth, leaving him unable to bend his feet and only partially self-sufficient. In August, when the smartwatches were deployed, staff from the county’s Assistance Family Verification Service Center personally delivered one to him. The device offers core functions like GPS tracking, heart rate monitoring, and one-touch emergency alerts, while backend data analysis enables personalized care—turning digital technology into an "invisible guardian" for vulnerable groups.
Li shared, "Today, when my back hurt, I just pressed the watch to call my family. It’s simple and convenient. With better policies now, staff often visit, bringing warmth to my life."
The county’s Assistance Family Verification Service Center leverages a digital management platform to serve decentralized special-needs individuals—those without labor capacity, income sources, or reliable caregivers. This addresses pain points in traditional care models, such as delayed emergency responses and monitoring gaps. The smartwatches integrate heart rate/blood pressure monitoring, SOS calls, GPS, and fall detection, aligning with daily care needs and complementing the county’s existing inspection protocols (daily checks, weekly reviews, monthly audits). Real-time data syncs to the platform, creating dynamic e-health records for proactive "real-time tracking and anomaly alerts."
By bridging technology with welfare, Yijun County dissolves geographical and temporal barriers, enabling efficient, precise support for special-needs individuals in their home environments.
Chen Xiaoyi, head of the digital platform, noted that since August, the 410 distributed smartwatches have achieved full coverage, triggering 3 missing-person alerts, over 120 health warnings, and 80 SOS calls. Moving forward, Yijun will enhance service quality, ensuring recipients feel secure with round-the-clock care.
