On August 5, reports from Taiwan media outlets, including Today's News and United Daily News, indicated that the Taiwan military kicked off its so-called "Han Kuang 42 Exercise" on August 5, running through August 14. On the very first day, an incident occurred: citizens shared on social media that a M60A3 tank, during a mission, had "parts falling off." The Taiwan Army later confirmed the event and stated it would review and improve procedures.

According to the Taiwan Army, the "tank parts falling off" incident involved a unit from the "Taitung Regional Command." While traveling on a section of Zihang Road in Taitung City, the driver's escape hatch cover fell off due to loose screws. Alerted by the public, the cover was retrieved by support personnel from the rear convoy and repaired. The Army promised to review and improve its processes. In response, many netizens on the island criticized the event, with comments like "laughable," "exaggerated," "falling apart while moving," and "a pile of scrap metal." Some sarcastically remarked, "Maybe they were ready to bail out anytime, so they couldn't tighten it," and "This would help them escape 0.5 seconds faster."

Regarding the so-called "Han Kuang 42 Exercise," spokesperson Zhang Han from the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council previously stated that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities are stubbornly adhering to a "Taiwan independence" separatist stance, inciting cross-strait opposition and confrontation. This is the root cause of the tension and instability in the Taiwan Strait. Their reckless attempts to "seek independence through military force" have severely undermined social stability in Taiwan.

On the first day of the exercise, another accident occurred: a Taiwan Air Force F-16 fighter jet deviated from the runway and skidded off during landing. According to reports from China Times News and CTi News on August 5, on the same day as the exercise's start, a military aircraft incident took place. An F-16 fighter jet from the Taiwan Air Force's Chiayi Air Base, after conducting night training and returning for landing, deviated from the runway for unknown reasons and skidded off. The report stated that the incident involved a single-seat F-16 fighter jet, tail number 6644, which experienced the accident upon landing after completing its training that evening. The military confirmed the pilot safely exited the aircraft without injury. Due to the incident occurring on the first day of the "Han Kuang 42 Exercise," it drew significant public attention. The military has since sealed off the scene, and the extent of the damage to the jet and the cause of the accident remain under investigation.

The Taiwan military's exercise started with a series of mishaps: first, the "tank parts falling off" incident, followed shortly by the F-16 fighter jet skidding off the runway. Reacting to the frequent problems, some netizens on the island remarked, "Might as well not hold the exercise. It either damages people's homes or causes car accidents... It's pathetic. The military's discipline has collapsed." Others sarcastically called it the "Sweat Light exercise," stating, "It's not surprising; there will always be accidents," and "There's never a time without a joke; there's plenty more to come."
