Performance Food Group (PFGC) shares plummeted 6.98% in pre-market trading on Wednesday, as investors reacted to the company's disappointing fiscal fourth-quarter results and a forward outlook that fell short of Wall Street expectations.

The food distributor reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.59, narrowly missing the consensus estimate of $1.60. Revenue came in at $18.0 billion, below the $18.088 billion analysts had forecast. Looking ahead, the company's first-quarter sales guidance of $17.9 billion to $18.1 billion trailed the $18.135 billion estimate, while its full-year fiscal 2027 revenue forecast of $72.5 billion to $73.0 billion was largely below the consensus of approximately $72.6 billion to $72.8 billion.

The dual miss on both earnings and sales, combined with a tepid outlook, fueled the sharp sell-off in the stock. The broader consumer staples sector showed mixed performance, but Performance Food Group's results-driven decline stood out as the company's higher costs and pricing pressures failed to translate into the growth that the market had anticipated.
