HSBC Holdings plc disclosed that 10,000 ordinary shares were repurchased on 9 September 2026 and formally cancelled on 11 September 2026. The cancellation reduced the issued share capital to 17.16 billion shares, a marginal 0.000058 % contraction versus the previous day’s balance.
The 11 September trades were executed on three UK venues—London Stock Exchange, CBOE Europe CXE and Aquis—at prices ranging from GBP 15.34 to GBP 15.59, for a volume-weighted average of GBP 15.48. Aggregate consideration totalled GBP 0.15 million.
On the same date, 321,600 shares were bought back on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange at prices between HKD 161.60 and HKD 163.50, costing HKD 52.24 million. These Hong Kong-executed shares, together with earlier purchases, remain outstanding for cancellation.
Securities awaiting cancellation now stand at 4.87 million shares—0.028 % of the current share base—including 540,000 shares bought in the UK and 4.33 million acquired in Hong Kong between 27 August and 11 September 2026.
Under the authority granted at the 8 May 2026 AGM, HSBC is permitted to repurchase up to 1.72 billion shares before the 2027 AGM. Since that mandate was approved, 28.42 million shares—0.1654 % of the share count at the mandate date—have been repurchased across UK and Hong Kong venues. A 30-day moratorium on issuing new shares following the latest buyback remains in force until 11 October 2026.
