Customs data from Changsha reveals that during the January-July period of 2026, Hunan province exported automobiles worth 6.35 billion yuan to ASEAN countries, marking a 15% year-on-year increase. Notably, exports to Malaysia and the Philippines surged by 230% and 200% respectively, solidifying ASEAN's position as Hunan's largest overseas auto market.

In the first seven months, Hunan's total vehicle exports reached 193,000 units, a substantial 61.3% increase, with the total export value climbing 29.6% to 24.4 billion yuan. Within the Geely automobile production park in Xiangtan, operations are bustling as finished vehicles are systematically loaded onto the Hunan-Guangdong-Africa rail-sea intermodal trains, heading for markets including Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates.

Xiangtan emerged as a key driver, exporting 99,000 vehicles during this period—a remarkable 141.6% surge—accounting for more than half of the province's total auto export volume. Meanwhile, Changsha led in export value with 15.19 billion yuan, representing over 60% of the provincial total. Huaihua recorded the most explosive growth, achieving a hundredfold increase in both export volume and value.

In late June, over 880 SANY electric heavy-duty trucks departed from Changsha for overseas destinations. This single order set a historic record for China's largest one-time export of new energy tractors, surpassing the entire industry's annual export volume of such vehicles in 2025.

Driven by key manufacturers, Hunan's auto export markets are diversifying rapidly. Exports to Russia and Belarus grew by 180% and 160% year-on-year respectively, while shipments to African nations reached 2.14 billion yuan, a 110% increase. According to Changsha Customs analysis, numerous Chinese automakers are effectively navigating trade barriers by establishing overseas plants, forming joint ventures, and cultivating local distribution networks. This push toward localized research, production, and sales is accelerating the industry's transition from simple product exports to comprehensive global operations.
