ServiceNow Invests $40 Million in BusinessNext to Strengthen Banking Software Capabilities

American enterprise software services provider ServiceNow, known for its IT service management and HR process automation products, is increasing its focus on the global financial services market by investing in a specialized Indian banking software firm.

ServiceNow has invested $40 million in Indian company BusinessNext, valuing the 24-year-old firm at $700 million post-investment, representing an approximate 5% stake. This transaction will provide BusinessNext access to ServiceNow's global sales network, and the two companies plan to deepen their joint collaboration on artificial intelligence within the financial services sector.

This investment also underscores BusinessNext's growing influence beyond its home market in India. The profitable company, headquartered in Noida, reported revenue of approximately $32 million in the last fiscal year. It serves over 70 banks across India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and the United States, with clients including the Reserve Bank of India, India's largest state-owned bank State Bank of India, and leading private sector bank HDFC Bank.

The company's founder and CEO, Nishant Singh, stated in an interview that around half of BusinessNext's revenue comes from outside India, with international markets set to be the primary growth driver in the future.

Rather than bringing in a purely financial investor, the company ultimately chose to partner with ServiceNow to leverage the American software giant's global capabilities for accelerated expansion. Singh explained that the collaboration will allow BusinessNext to 'borrow' ServiceNow's established go-to-market systems and sales infrastructure in regions where its own penetration is lower.

"This can be understood as a deep strategic partnership solidified by capital deployment," he said.

Singh noted that BusinessNext's software focuses on managing front-end customer business processes for banks, while ServiceNow's core strength lies in process automation and mid-to-back-office systems. The two plan to bundle this combined solution and jointly market it to various financial institutions.

Traditional enterprise software vendors are currently facing pressure from clients: as native AI-powered alternatives continue to emerge, customers are beginning to question the value proposition of traditional SaaS tools. For ServiceNow, investing in this AI-focused banking software firm helps address its own gaps in the banking sector. The company continues to enrich its enterprise software portfolio through a three-pronged approach involving acquisitions, strategic investments, and ecosystem partnerships.
