Southern Hebei Grid's Distributed Solar Capacity Surpasses 25 Gigawatts

Distributed solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation capacity on the southern Hebei grid has exceeded 25 gigawatts, reaching 25,025.3 megawatts. This figure accounts for 55% of the region's total PV capacity and 27% of the overall installed power generation capacity in the regional grid.

The local distribution network is transitioning from a traditional one-way radial power supply model to a new paradigm that integrates source-load coordination and main-distribution grid synergy. This marks a significant milestone in the green transformation of the power grid.

Against the backdrop of accelerating efforts to meet the "dual carbon" goals and the rapid construction of a new-type power system, distributed PV development in Hebei has been swift. From the start of 2020 to the end of June this year, the southern Hebei grid added 19,360 megawatts of distributed PV capacity, positioning distributed solar as a key driver of the energy transition and the creation of a new power system.

As the installed capacity and power generation from distributed PV continue to grow, the grid faces challenges such as reverse overloads on equipment, voltage limit violations, and insufficient local consumption capacity. In response, State Grid Hebei Electric Power Co., Ltd. is actively supporting the development of distributed PV, working to resolve bottlenecks and pain points across the entire chain of grid integration, consumption, and dispatch control.

The company is adhering to a planning-led approach, conducting regular analyses of available capacity to guide and support the scientific layout of distributed PV. It has developed a series of standards, including technical principles and typical models, to improve the efficiency of integration services. The company is also ramping up grid construction efforts, with annual investments in medium and low-voltage distribution networks exceeding 7 billion yuan. It is implementing special renovation projects, such as village-level grid upgrades and the mitigation of reverse overloads, to systematically enhance the overall carrying capacity of the distribution network.

Furthermore, the company is strengthening technical support by innovating microgrid technology in areas rich in renewable energy. It has built microgrids at the megawatt and ten-megawatt levels to improve the power supply reliability of end-of-line grids and boost the level of new energy consumption.
