Walmart is restructuring the top leadership of its core US operations, as the retail giant's new CEO continues to build his executive team.

Internal memos indicate that Kieran Shanahan, the Chief Operating Officer for Walmart US, will leave his position this week. The 45-year-old Shanahan will be succeeded by Kyle Kinnard, the current Chief Operating Officer for Walmart International.

The Bentonville, Arkansas-based company has seen several senior executives depart in recent months. These include Tom Ward, the COO of Walmart's warehouse club chain Sam's Club, and Cedric Clark, the head of US store operations for Walmart, who left in May and whose position remains unfilled.

This management reshuffle follows the appointment earlier this year of John Furner as the company's global Chief Executive Officer, elevating a long-time company veteran with deep roots at the Arkansas headquarters. The company also appointed new CEOs and key executives for its three main divisions: US operations, international operations, and Sam's Club.

The memo stated that Kieran Shanahan joined Walmart nearly 30 years ago at its then-UK subsidiary, Asda. He will not leave immediately but will stay on in an advisory role until the end of Walmart's fiscal year on January 31, 2027.

The 47-year-old Kyle Kinnard began his Walmart career over two decades ago at Sam's Club. He and John Furner are both graduates of the University of Arkansas's marketing program.

Walmart stated that another executive, Juan Galarraga, will assume some of the international business responsibilities previously handled by Kyle Kinnard.

Walmart has reported strong quarterly sales for years, but some investors recently expressed concerns about a potential price war in the grocery sector that could erode profits. Earlier this month, Walmart announced price cuts on thousands of items, and other retailers like Kroger have also unveiled discount plans in recent weeks.
