CCTV Investigation Exposes Unsanitary Conditions at High-Volume Delivery-Only Restaurant on Meituan Platform

A recent report by CCTV's Weekly Quality Report has uncovered severe hygiene violations at a delivery-only restaurant operating on the MEITUAN-W platform in Jinan's High-Tech Zone. The establishment, which has been in business for six years and processes over a thousand orders monthly, was found to have filthy premises where staff handled roasted chicken bare-chested without any protective gear.

During the investigation, an employee with no shirt greeted a reporter posing as a customer. The roasting equipment was located in a warehouse-like room cluttered with empty cardboard boxes, leaving only a narrow passage. A disinfection cabinet was being used to store delivery boxes, positioned directly beside the food preparation station where a tray of roasted chicken sat exposed.

The worker, lacking any sanitary protection, selected a chicken from the roaster using bare hands. He then casually placed used tissue paper alongside the poultry on the cutting board before proceeding to chop it. After portioning, the chicken was packed into aluminum foil containers retrieved from behind a partition.

The packaged food was subsequently heated in a microwave located in an adjacent room that doubled as a prep area for burgers and fried snacks. Two uncovered garbage bins in this space were overflowing with waste. Ingredients were stored openly behind one of the bins, while the microwave interior showed a thick layer of accumulated grease.

When questioned about the conditions, the employee dismissed concerns, stating, "We eat here regularly—even the boss's wife, who just gave birth, doesn't hesitate to eat this food."

Local market regulatory authorities conducted a surprise inspection of the delivery-only eatery, identifying multiple violations including improper food storage, poor kitchen cleanliness, and the mixing of personal belongings with food items. Enforcement officers from the Jinan High-Tech Zone Administrative Committee's Market Supervision Department issued a Rectification Order, mandating that all issues be corrected by September 15.
