Wuxi Airport Addresses Video of Passengers Using Umbrellas Inside Terminal

Passengers at Wuxi Shuofang Airport in Jiangsu Province were seen using umbrellas inside the waiting area on August 10, as videos shared on social media platforms showed localized water leaks in the terminal. The clips quickly drew public attention online.

In the videos, water could be seen seeping through gaps in the ceiling panels above the passenger waiting area, with droplets continuously falling from the ceiling. Dozens of plastic buckets were placed on the floor to catch the water, while cleaning staff worked to mop up the accumulating puddles.

An airport hotline representative responded that the leakage was limited to specific spots in the waiting area, not a widespread issue across the entire terminal building. The airport attributed the problem to damage in high-altitude facilities above the terminal, which was triggered by a sudden, heavy rainstorm.

Maintenance crews have been dispatched for emergency repairs at height, though the airport noted that the elevated work location necessitates a longer time to complete, preventing an immediate fix. The airport authority stated that this was a sudden incident caused by the intense rainfall, and they will conduct a comprehensive inspection and repair of rainproof facilities, including the terminal roof, ceiling panels, and windows. They plan to establish a preemptive inspection mechanism for rainy days and improve emergency response protocols to prevent similar issues from recurring.
