US Manufacturing Sector Sees Fastest Growth in Four Years, Fueled by AI Boom

US manufacturers recorded their strongest expansion in over four years during July, driven by the surging demand from artificial intelligence, though they are also grappling with supply constraints and rising inflation reminiscent of the pandemic era.

The closely watched ISM Manufacturing Index climbed to 55.6% in July, up from 53.3% in June. A reading above 50% indicates industry growth.

"Business remains solid. We expect revenue to grow between 3% and 5%," said an executive from a metal component manufacturer in a survey for the Institute for Supply Management.

The ISM conducts monthly surveys of executives on business conditions. The manufacturing sector, which employs approximately 13 million people, continues to play a vital role in the US economy.

For American manufacturers, this is a period of both opportunity and challenge. They are benefiting from a wave of investment in artificial intelligence, but growth is being weighed down by conflicts with Iran and the impact of new Trump-era tariffs.
