Shares of Spotify Technology S.A. (SPOT) tumbled 5% in pre-market trading on Tuesday, following the release of its second-quarter 2026 financial results and a disappointing third-quarter outlook.

The audio streaming giant reported Q2 earnings of $3.03 per share, missing the analyst consensus estimate of $3.29 by 7.9%. Revenue for the quarter came in at $5.554 billion, also falling short of the expected $5.600 billion. The top- and bottom-line misses were accompanied by soft forward guidance, with Spotify forecasting third-quarter operating income of €670 million, below the Visible Alpha estimate of €677.8 million. The company also projected monthly active users of 788 million for Q3, below the 793.6 million consensus, signaling slowing user growth in key markets like Europe and North America.

Despite the Q2 revenue rising 14% year-over-year and premium subscribers reaching 300 million, the combination of an earnings miss, lower-than-expected user growth, and a cautious profit outlook weighed heavily on investor sentiment and triggered the pre-market sell-off.
