Wall Street Journal reports OpenAI is expanding its data‑center footprint and has raised its compute‑spend forecast through 2030 from about $600 bln earlier this year to roughly $750 bln, citing new agreements with cloud providers to secure large‑scale compute for AI model development and operations.

OpenAI said it will invest $20 bln to launch the "Camellia" data centre in Effingham County, Georgia, and has signed a contract with Georgia Power for 3.2 GW of electricity supply covering 2028–2032; total project costs may exceed $30 bln, potentially making it one of OpenAI’s largest facilities.

Sources say OpenAI has hired Brent Mayo, a former lead architect on Musk’s data‑centre projects, to help keep the build on schedule.
