American Airlines shares surged 5.08% in overnight trading, propelled by a combination of robust quarterly results, an analyst upgrade, and easing fuel cost pressures.

The company reported second-quarter adjusted earnings per share of $0.15, crushing the consensus estimate of $0.03 by 400%. Revenue reached a record $16.74 billion, up 16.3% year-over-year, reflecting strong travel demand across all cabin classes. Adding to the positive sentiment, JPMorgan raised its price target on the stock from $22 to $24, signaling increased confidence in the airline's outlook. At the same time, a more than 2% decline in international crude oil prices helped alleviate concerns over fuel expenses, a major cost center for carriers.

Management emphasized that unit revenue growth is expected to accelerate in the second half of the year, with the CFO noting that revenue momentum is projected to carry into the latter part of 2026. These factors together fueled the sharp upward move in American Airlines shares during the extended session.
