American Eagle Outfitters' stock tumbled 10.91% in after-hours trading following the release of its first-quarter fiscal 2026 results. The apparel retailer reported a swing to profitability with adjusted earnings per share of $0.14, beating the consensus estimate of $0.12, and revenue of $1.2 billion, slightly above expectations.

Despite the earnings beat, investors reacted negatively to mixed performance across the company's brands. While the Aerie brand delivered record revenue with comparable sales soaring 25%, the core American Eagle brand saw comparable sales decline 2%. The company also maintained its full-year outlook, expecting comparable sales to grow in the mid-single digits, citing ongoing geopolitical uncertainty and cautious consumer spending.

The decline comes amid broader sector concerns, with peer Gap cutting its annual sales forecast on pressured discretionary spending. American Eagle's management expressed confidence in navigating near-term headwinds but the maintained guidance and weakness in the flagship brand appear to have disappointed the market after the earnings release.
