General Motors Reports Strong Q2 Results, Raises Full-Year Guidance Again

General Motors reported its second-quarter financial results on Tuesday, showing adjusted earnings per share of $3.57 and revenue of $48 billion, both surpassing market expectations. Given the robust performance, the company announced an upward revision to its full-year 2026 profit guidance and declared a quarterly dividend of $0.18 per share.

The financial report indicated that General Motors' adjusted earnings before interest and taxes for the second quarter reached $3.9 billion, a 29.8% increase year-over-year, with the profit margin improving to 8.2% from 6.4% in the same period last year. The North American market remained the primary profit driver, contributing $3.4 billion in adjusted EBIT with a margin of 8.6%. Despite a slight year-over-year decline in U.S. market sales, strong demand for pickup trucks and SUVs supported profit growth.

Initial Guidance

The company now anticipates full-year adjusted EBIT to reach $14 billion to $16 billion, with adjusted earnings per share expected between $12 and $14, both figures higher than the previous forecast range. This marks the second time this year that General Motors has raised its performance outlook. In a letter to shareholders, General Motors CEO Mary Barra stated that the company continues to strengthen its financial performance by reducing warranty costs, cutting losses in its electric vehicle business, and improving operational efficiency.

Net Income Impact

However, the company's net profit for the quarter fell 31% year-over-year to $1.3 billion, primarily impacted by a special charge of approximately $2.3 billion related to its electric vehicle operations. As a measure to return value to shareholders, the company's board of directors approved the quarterly cash dividend.
