Vibrant Yunnan is surging with waves of industrial transformation. In the Qujing Economic and Technological Development Zone, modern factory buildings gleam under the sun, hosting a complete silicon photovoltaic industry chain. At the Kunming Anning Industrial Park, green molten aluminum flows vigorously, transforming through precise processes into high-performance aluminum alloys destined for the high-end aerospace stage. In Pu'er coffee estates, small red berries complete a value leap from "local specialty" to "premium beans."

With the "14th Five-Year Plan" bearing abundant fruit and the "15th Five-Year Plan" on the horizon, how can the battle for industrial transformation and upgrading be won? How can a modern industrial system with Yunnan's distinctive advantages be constructed? The 9th Plenary Session of the 11th Provincial Party Committee charted the "roadmap," and the Provincial Economic Work Conference sounded the "charge." A comprehensive industrial campaign centered on "embracing the new, pursuing green development, and gathering momentum" is now in full swing across the red soil plateau.

Focusing on advantageous sectors, Yunnan is building characteristic key industries through full-chain development. In the early morning at Yunnan Hongtai New Materials Co., Ltd., electrolytic cells hum softly as silvery molten aluminum flows steadily—this is not ordinary aluminum but green aluminum smelted using clean hydropower. "A few years ago, we mainly sold aluminum ingots, and the profit margin was as thin as paper," said technician Xiao Li, pointing to the smart production line. "Now it's different. The molten aluminum goes directly to the adjacent Weiqiao Aluminum Industrial Park, where through deep processing, it becomes aluminum sheets for vehicle lightweighting, high-end aerospace alloys, aluminum foil for new energy batteries, and more, multiplying its value several times over." In the Zhaotong Hydro-Silicon Integrated Industrial Park, workers at Yunnan Hoshine Silicon Industry are busy turning silicon rock into gold. Industrial silicon undergoes processes to become polysilicon, monocrystalline silicon rods, and finally, gleaming solar cells. "We no longer just 'sell raw materials'; we are building a full industrial chain from silicon ore to photovoltaic modules," said the company executive with pride. These scenes epitomize the province's efforts to strengthen, optimize, and expand resource-based industries by leveraging its natural endowments. Since the beginning of the year, the province has further focused on driving five key industries, including deep processing of non-ferrous metals like aluminum and copper, promoting transformation and upgrading across the entire chain. From January to November, sectors such as non-ferrous metals, electronics, green aluminum, and new energy batteries showed impressive growth rates, with the non-ferrous industry contributing nearly 30% to the growth of industries above a designated size. "Moving forward, we will concentrate on five advantageous tracks, emphasizing the extension of the aluminum and copper deep processing chains, expanding strong and new materials like indium, germanium, and platinum, promoting efficient and high-value utilization of phosphorus resources, and vigorously developing deep processing of plateau characteristic agricultural products and traditional Chinese medicinal materials," said Zhou Yong, Director of the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology. As a bright name card of Yunnan's agricultural economy, the plateau characteristic agriculture sector is shining anew, having formed an industrial system in recent years focused on tea, fresh cut flowers, coffee, nuts, and others, with the full-chain output value of the "1+10+3+N" key industries nearing 3 trillion yuan. In a coffee garden in Simao District, Pu'er City, farmer Zhang, picking fresh cherries, smiled and explained, "Before, we only knew how to sell green beans. Now we've learned to 'extract every bit of value,' turning beans into drip bags, cold brew concentrates, and even the fruit skin can become tea bags. My family's income increased by 30% last year." Across the province, small coffee has become a big industry, driving the provincial industry scale from less than 100 billion yuan to nearly 800 billion yuan within three years. The "apple revolution" in Zhaoyang District, Zhaotong City, is equally dynamic. Beyond fresh fruit sales, new products like apple crisps, apple vinegar, and apple enzyme supplements are emerging endlessly, alongside apple-themed homestays and research bases. "We are vigorously promoting the integration of primary, secondary, and tertiary industries, making apples a true fruit of prosperity," said Wu Yun, Deputy Director of the Zhaotong Municipal Development and Reform Commission. Emerging and future industries are also accelerating their pace. In the Majinpu area of Kunming High-tech Zone, the lights are on late at the Yunnan Precious Metals Laboratory, where researchers are tackling the development of new-generation platinum group metal catalytic materials for use in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, a market with vast prospects. In Yuxi, the low-altitude economy has quietly taken off—drones are busy spraying pesticides and monitoring crops over farmland in Hongta District; over Fuxian Lake, manned electric aircraft are undergoing test flights, poised to carry tourists across the skies in the future. Once dominated by tobacco and energy, Yunnan's industrial landscape is now seeing the rapid rise of "new forces" like biomedicine, new materials, and advanced equipment manufacturing. Inside Yunnan Baiyao's smart factory, toothpaste production lines operate at high speed, with new products selling out upon release. In the workshops of Sino-Platinum Metals Co., Ltd., automotive exhaust purification catalysts are loaded onto trucks bound for domestic and international markets. Special cables produced by Kunming Cable Group are widely used in major national projects like high-speed rail and nuclear power. "We will focus on three key areas to build a modern industrial system with Yunnan's characteristic advantages," said Chen Ming, Director of the Provincial Development and Reform Commission. The focus includes strengthening, optimizing, and expanding resource-based industries in areas like green aluminum, silicon photovoltaics, phosphorus chemical industry, non-ferrous and precious metals; consolidating and enhancing characteristic advantageous industries in plateau-specific agriculture, cultural tourism, green energy, tobacco, and modern logistics; and actively developing strategic emerging industries and future industries, focusing on key breakthrough directions like biomedicine, new materials, advanced equipment manufacturing, the digital economy, the low-altitude economy, and bio-manufacturing.

Grasping critical links, Yunnan is accelerating its leap towards the high end of the industrial chain. On July 9, 2025, Luxi County and Yanshan County joined hands with the Weiqiao Entrepreneurship Group to co-build a green, low-carbon demonstration industrial park and an innovation industrial park. Upon full operation, this landmark key project will propel Yunnan's electrolytic aluminum capacity to the second highest in the nation. "The landing of a major industrial project drives the development of a cluster and boosts regional growth," said a relevant official from the Provincial Development and Reform Commission. Yunnan has established a攻坚 mechanism for牵引性 major industrial projects, concentrating efforts to achieve breakthroughs in key projects within sectors like green aluminum, petrochemicals, phosphorus chemicals, and rare earths. Kunming City is striving to perfect its "10+N" key industrial chain system. "We are cultivating new quality productive forces based on local conditions, promoting the simultaneous advancement of traditional industry upgrading and emerging industry cluster development," explained Guo Ying, Director of the Kunming Municipal Development and Reform Commission. The "leading goose effect" of major projects is becoming increasingly prominent. In the Green Aluminum Innovation Industrial Park in Funing County, enterprises engaged in deep aluminum processing produce automotive parts and high-end electronic casings, with value-added benefits exceeding those of traditional aluminum ingots by more than five times. The titanium industrial chain project落户 in Lufeng City transforms titanium ore into high-end products like chloride-process titanium dioxide, sponge titanium, and titanium materials. Technological innovation is exerting a "multiplier effect." Yunnan Aluminium has developed various high-performance aluminum alloys widely used in aerospace and rail transit, significantly increasing added value. Yunnan Baiyao has achieved intelligent control from planting to production through digital production lines, greatly improving efficiency. The Yunnan Precious Metals Group has explored a成果转化 path of "laboratory + pilot base + industrial park." "Our Precious Metals New Materials Industrial Park has incubated over ten tech enterprises, achieving an industrial breakthrough in platinum group metal materials from gram-scale to ton-scale production," introduced a group executive. "Technological innovation is the key engine for industrial upgrading. We will implement a sci-tech empowerment action, closely aligning with the needs of key industries, strengthening technological攻关 and成果转化 to provide support for stable economic growth and structural adjustment," stated Gao Jun, Director of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology. As the main阵地 for industrial agglomeration, industrial parks are achieving显著 results in "quality and efficiency improvement." The Hudian Linkong Kunming Science and Technology City, located in the Qingshui area of Kunming Economic and Technological Development Zone, is gradually bustling with activity. This park, co-developed by Shanghai Lingang Group and Yunnan, introduces advanced manufacturing enterprises and technological innovation resources from the Yangtze River Delta region. Currently, 144 enterprises have registered, with leased space exceeding 100,000 square meters; 24 companies have already moved in,初步 forming an industrial agglomeration effect. The Yuxi High-tech Zone is exploring an "park-within-a-park" model, building specialized parks focused on industries like biomedicine and new energy batteries. "We have attracted leading enterprises like Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) and Eve Energy Co., Ltd., driving the agglomeration of upstream and downstream产业链 partners and forming a cluster effect," explained the high-tech zone's负责人. Across the province, seven industrial parks have already entered the 100-billion-yuan俱乐部. More notably, there is a profound transformation in park development models. The "16+16" park co-construction mechanism between Shanghai and Yunnan continues to deepen, and a "2+3+N" development pattern for border industrial parks is初步 taking shape, becoming frontlines for undertaking industrial transfer and expanding border openness. Since the start of the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the 122 various development zones in the province, occupying only 0.3% of the provincial land area, have contributed over 80% of the total output value of industries above a designated size. The high-quality development path characterized by intensive land use, industrial agglomeration, and concentrated benefits is vividly demonstrated within these parks. With traditional industries being revitalized, emerging industries rising, and future industries gaining momentum, a modern industrial system with Yunnan's distinctive advantages is rapidly taking shape, injecting powerful momentum into high-quality leapfrog development.
