Woodward (WWD) shares tumbled 6.63% in the 24-hour period ending Wednesday evening, as investors reacted negatively to the company's fiscal third-quarter earnings release. The drop extended losses from the regular session, where the stock had already fallen sharply, before accelerating in after-hours trading.

The decline was triggered by a mixed earnings report. While adjusted earnings per share came in at $2.52, narrowly beating the IBES estimate of $2.50, the reported GAAP EPS of $2.40 fell short of consensus expectations. Meanwhile, revenue of $1,100 million missed the analyst estimate of $1,104 million, adding to the disappointment. The company also issued a full-year adjusted EPS outlook of $9.30 to $9.50, which may have contributed to investor concerns about the pace of future growth.

The sharp sell-off underscores the market's sensitivity to bottom-line misses, with the GAAP earnings shortfall and cautious guidance overshadowing the adjusted earnings beat and robust year-over-year revenue growth of 21%.
