Samsung Electronics and five of its affiliates announced on Tuesday that they have collectively invested $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, an AI infrastructure platform established by private equity firm KKR in June of this year.
Rapidly surging demand for artificial intelligence has driven technology companies, energy suppliers, and investment institutions to pursue a wide range of partnership deals and projects aimed at expanding computing infrastructure on a global scale.
Since its inception, Helix has secured capital commitments totaling more than $10 billion from KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, Nvidia, and energy company Vistra.
The $1 billion investment from the major South Korean conglomerate will provide Helix with additional funding to deploy toward data centers, power, networking and communications, and other AI infrastructure.
KKR said in a statement: "Helix plans to tap into Samsung's technical capabilities in advanced technology, engineering and construction, energy storage, and thermal cooling to support the large-scale development and delivery of AI infrastructure."
