Brazilian President Lula attended a ceremony at BYD's Brazilian factory on October 9th.

During the ceremony, Lula stated that "we will continue to strengthen relations with China," noting that China has been Brazil's largest trading partner for 15 years.

"We see each other as important countries of the Global South," Lula said, "we want to be respected and treated with dignity." He emphasized his desire to establish similar relationships with other countries around the world.

The factory is located in Camaçari, in Brazil's northeastern state of Bahia.

On October 9th, BYD's 14 millionth new energy vehicle officially rolled off the production line at the Brazilian factory.

BYD founder and chairman Wang Chuanfu attended the ceremony, emphasizing that this is the company's largest factory outside Asia.

According to Wang Chuanfu, this move aims to strengthen BYD's market presence in Brazil while using the new factory as a base for exports to other Latin American countries.

Electric vehicles, the vast majority of which are Chinese brands, are gaining increasing market share in Brazil. Industry data shows that since 2025, electric vehicles have accounted for 10% of Brazil's domestic market sales.

Rui Costa, Chief of Staff of the Brazilian Presidential Office, attended the ceremony and offered special thanks to China, emphasizing the country's importance to global growth, particularly in the technology sector. Costa said: "I want to thank and express my sincere admiration for what the Chinese people have done in the past and continue to do today." He compared China's transformation into a global technology powerhouse in just a few decades to the efforts of the Bahian people to overcome the region's economic difficulties. "The people here, like the Chinese people, have been working to change this region that has historically been marked by negative social indicators," he said.

Costa also emphasized the importance of cultural diversity and integration at BYD's new factory. "Here, perhaps, embodies President Lula's dream expressed at the United Nations about humanity sharing opportunities. Seeing young people with Black, Bahian, and Chinese faces working together in this factory is a source of pride for those who dream of building a united society," Costa concluded, highlighting the factory's symbolic significance as a space for international cooperation and shared progress.
