Alphabet Streamlines Operations by Merging Robotics Software Firm Intrinsic into Google

Alphabet is integrating Intrinsic, a robotics software company originally developed under its experimental projects division, as part of efforts to streamline its operations in the sector. Intrinsic became a standalone company under Alphabet’s "Other Bets" division in July 2021, after spending five and a half years in the company’s research lab, X. On Wednesday, Alphabet announced that Intrinsic will now be merged into Google. While robotics hardware, such as robotic arms, has become more affordable, programming them remains highly complex. The process often requires specialized engineers to spend hundreds of hours on manual coding, which can vary depending on the specific robot model. Intrinsic’s flagship product, Flowstate, is a web-based platform that enables users to build robotic applications without writing thousands of lines of code. In a statement, Intrinsic said, "Joining Google will allow us to amplify our collective work in cutting-edge AI—from research and development to deployment and daily operations—enabling industrial applications in manufacturing and logistics."
