The Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA) has released its economic performance report for the first half of 2026, showcasing steady growth across several key indicators. The region achieved a gross domestic product (GDP) of 196.78 billion yuan, representing a 6.1% year-on-year increase.
Both the next-generation information technology sector and the robotics and intelligent manufacturing sector recorded double-digit growth in output value. The total value of imports and exports reached 118.85 billion yuan, a significant 33.8% increase compared to the same period last year.
Data indicates that the BDA's total industrial output for the first half of the year approached 360 billion yuan, with the industrial sector's supportive role becoming increasingly prominent. The combined output value of the region's leading industries—including next-generation information technology, biotechnology and health, high-end automotive and new energy intelligent vehicles, and robotics and intelligent manufacturing—accounted for over 90% of the BDA's total industrial output. Specifically, the output value of the next-generation information technology industry grew by 37.5% year-on-year, while the robotics and intelligent manufacturing industry saw a 12.3% increase.
Furthermore, future-oriented industries such as quantum information, biomanufacturing, fusion energy, brain science and brain-computer interfaces, embodied intelligence, and 6G communication are steadily expanding. Corporate research and development investment has shown strong growth. In the first half of the year, R&D spending by large and medium-sized enterprises surged by nearly 30%. The region also added 13 new "First (Set) Products" designated by Beijing, ranking first in the city.
