According to an internal document from CHINA TELECOM Group, Wang Yu has been appointed as Deputy General Manager of Anhui Telecom. Unlike previous appointees, Wang was not promoted internally within the company, raising questions about his professional background.

Wang Yu was previously Vice President of the Cultural and Media Industry Division under CHINA TELECOM's Government and Enterprise Information Service Group, as well as Deputy General Manager (on secondment) of China Telecom Cultural Media Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd.

His career began at Guangdong Telecom, where he served as Deputy General Manager of Yangjiang Telecom. In 2022, he was promoted to General Manager of Shaoguan Telecom, demonstrating extensive and solid early-stage work experience. His strong operational capabilities enabled him to lead a mid-sized municipal branch under Guangdong Telecom.

In 2024, Wang was transferred to the group's Government and Enterprise Information Service Group as Vice President of the Cultural and Media Industry Division, maintaining his position as a third-tier senior executive. In the first half of this year, he took on an additional role as Deputy General Manager of China Telecom Cultural Media Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd.

CHINA TELECOM has been rapidly expanding in the cultural and media sector, evidenced by the establishment of China Telecom Cultural Media Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd. in November 2024. Wang's promotion within just a few months likely fills the vacancy left by his predecessor, Zhang Xiaojun, former Deputy General Manager of Anhui Telecom, who was promoted to General Manager of Inner Mongolia Telecom earlier this year.

Industry analysts suggest that Wang's promotion reflects his strong professional competence and cross-regional work experience. His background in a major provincial market and expertise in government and enterprise business make him a highly suitable candidate for the role.
