Global connectivity solutions provider Belden Inc. has announced the launch of the ProSoft Technology ELX3 ProLinx Edge gateway, integrating operational technology protocol conversion with Docker-based edge application hosting on a single, ruggedized hardware platform.

This gateway enables the direct deployment of data acquisition, digital connectivity, and CPU-based edge analytics at the machine level, facilitating localized decision-making by collecting and processing data at the network edge. Its core functions include EtherNet/IP to Modbus TCP/IP protocol conversion, enabling interoperability between different devices. It supports user-defined containers for deploying advanced applications like machine learning, predictive maintenance, and digital twins. The platform is designed with scalability to accommodate more protocol container gateways in the future.

The ELX3 is well-suited for industrial enterprises seeking to unify data from diverse IIoT devices and legacy OT systems, consolidating disparate automation islands into centralized systems for analysis and action.

Designed for large, complex industrial networks with numerous connected devices, the gateway is applicable to sectors such as oil and gas, power distribution, warehousing, and logistics. Its industrial-grade design withstands shock, vibration, and electromagnetic compatibility requirements, operating within a temperature range of -40°C to +70°C and certified for Class I Division 2 environments.
