The corn seed production industry is one of the key industrial drivers for advancing rural revitalization in the Xiaohe Ecological Leisure Area, and it is also a distinctive advantage industry that Duanting Village has developed in line with local conditions. Compared with ordinary grain cultivation, corn seed production requires higher technical standards and offers more stable economic returns. In the past, the village's plots were scattered, and smallholder farming yielded limited profits. To revitalize land resources, the village promoted land transfer, consolidated fragmented farmland, built a standardized corn seed breeding base, and introduced professional enterprise operations, achieving large-scale planting and standardized management.
Zhao Baoyu, a villager from Duanting Village, said that in the past, his personal seed production earned about the same as growing field crops. Now, after land transfer, he not only receives rent but also earns a wage right at his doorstep, which is quite satisfying for him as a 72-year-old man.
Quality is the lifeline of the seed industry's development. As the operating enterprise of the seed production base, Fukang Agricultural Investment leverages Duanting's resource advantages, relies on professional technical support and modern field facilities, and actively promotes standardized management models such as refined water and fertilizer management and green pest and disease prevention, while standardizing the entire chain from field management, harvesting, and drying to procurement and warehousing, effectively solidifying the foundation for the seed production industry's development.
Wang Lijun, Deputy General Manager of Shouyang County Fukang Agricultural Construction Investment Co., Ltd., said that in order to accelerate the seed industry revitalization initiative and strengthen the seed industry foundation for the county's high-efficiency ecological agriculture, the decision to establish the corn seed production base in Duanting Village was made based on its irrigation advantages from the Xiaohe River and contiguous arable land resources. In addition, with excellent corn varieties introduced from Xinjiang this year for breeding, the yield per mu is expected to exceed 800 jin, and both output and seed quality are expected to meet expectations.
Currently, Duanting Village has transferred 3,000 mu of land, and the seed production scale has steadily reached over 240 mu. A large-scale, intensive seed production industry pattern is gradually taking shape. Behind the steady development of the industry is the full support of the village collective. In recent years, the village's "two committees" have actively served as a bridge for enterprise-locality coordination, solidly carrying out land transfer coordination, base logistics support, and other tasks, laying the foundation for the large-scale development of the seed production industry.
Wang Peng, a member of the Duanting Village Party Branch, said that since the village developed the corn seed production industry, the village collective and villagers have fully cooperated in field management supervision and other tasks, making every effort to ensure the smooth development of the seed production industry.
In recent years, Xiluo Town has taken corn seed production as the main direction for the area's distinctive agriculture, continuously improving field infrastructure, and while steadily strengthening the foundation of distinctive agriculture for enriching the people, it has coordinated agricultural industry upgrading with integrated agricultural-cultural-tourism development, deeply revitalized pastoral ecological resources, and focused on building a new development pattern that solidifies the rural industrial foundation with distinctive seed production.
Li Shunan, a village-affiliated official of Duanting Village, Xiluo Town, said that the corn seed production industry has effectively optimized the town's agricultural planting structure, and compared with ordinary corn planting, economic benefits have significantly improved. In the next step, they will continue to solidify the foundation of people-enriching industries with distinctive agriculture such as corn seed production and rice, and explore a practical path for rural revitalization through deep regional integration of agriculture, culture, and tourism.
