East Zhundong to South Anhui Ultra-High Voltage Direct Current Project Surpasses 4000 Billion kWh in Delivered Electricity

As of July 17th, the cumulative electricity delivered by the East Zhundong to South Anhui ±1100 kV Ultra-High Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) transmission project has exceeded 4000 billion kilowatt-hours.

This volume of electricity is sufficient to meet the annual residential power consumption needs of 121 million four-person households.

It is equivalent to saving 120 million tons of standard coal for the East China region and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 340 million tons.

The East Zhundong to South Anhui ±1100 kV UHVDC transmission project is currently the world's highest voltage level, largest transmission capacity, and longest-distance ultra-high voltage power transmission project.

The project links the major Zhundong energy base in Xinjiang, China, with the load centers in East China, bearing the critical mission of enabling inter-regional grid interconnection and ensuring regional energy supply.

Guquan Converter Station serves as the receiving terminal for the East Zhundong to South Anhui ±1100 kV UHVDC transmission project.

To ensure the station's safe and stable operation, State Grid Anhui Electric Power Company has adhered to the principle of "prevention first, precise control," establishing a professional, intelligent, and standardized management system.

It has innovatively implemented a multi-dimensional inspection model combining manual patrols, smart robots, and drone aerial photography.

Relying on an integrated monitoring platform, this system enables the inspection and real-time monitoring of 146 first-of-its-kind units across 17 major equipment categories at the station.

The company has deepened the application of big data algorithm analysis and artificial intelligence to proactively achieve precise perception of equipment operating status and early fault warnings, significantly enhancing equipment safety and health levels.

Since the start of summer this year, Guquan Converter Station has strictly implemented its task list for ensuring power supply during peak demand periods, refining differentiated equipment maintenance measures.

All personnel have reinforced their responsibility for power supply security and strengthened their sense of ownership.

State Grid Anhui Electric Power has established an operation and maintenance mechanism within the station focused on proactive warning, analysis, and handling.

It has bolstered the configuration of operation and maintenance personnel on duty, forming six professional emergency response teams ready for deployment.

The company has conducted comprehensive live detection, managed equipment defects through closed-loop processes, and carried out specialized rectification of key hazards such as gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) guide bushings and cable trench fire protection.

Simultaneously, it has increased the frequency of equipment inspections and online monitoring analysis, while routinely conducting cross-disciplinary emergency drills.

These multi-pronged measures collectively ensure the stable operation of all station equipment through the summer season.

Since its commissioning on September 26, 2019, the East Zhundong to South Anhui ±1100 kV UHVDC transmission project has consistently increased its annual electricity delivery to the East China region.

Its daily transmission capacity has reached a peak of 250 million kilowatt-hours.

For five consecutive years, it has ranked first among all national UHVDC projects in terms of electricity transmitted externally.

The project provides robust support for serving the "dual carbon" goals and fostering high-quality economic and social development in the Yangtze River Delta region.
