Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po delivered a speech at the listing ceremony for China government bond futures on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, stating that the accelerated internationalization of the renminbi requires not only a robust offshore payment and settlement system but also a diverse ecosystem of investment products and risk management tools, including a complete yield curve and enhanced market depth.

Chan emphasized that Hong Kong has already established four key foundations. First, a stable offshore renminbi liquidity pool exceeding 1.1 trillion yuan. Second, an efficient settlement system processing nearly 48 trillion yuan in transactions monthly. Third, the Dim Sum bond market continues to expand, with annual issuance exceeding 1 trillion yuan over the past two years and a total surpassing 1.6 trillion yuan, of which about a quarter are central government renminbi bonds issued in Hong Kong. To date, the cumulative scale of central government renminbi bonds issued in Hong Kong has exceeded 440 billion yuan.
