Tianqi Lithium (09696) saw its shares drop more than 5% during the trading session. As of the time of writing, the stock was down 3.86%, trading at HKD 54.8, with a turnover of HKD 274 million. On the news front, Tianqi Lithium announced that regarding its significant associate company SQM signing a partnership agreement with Codelco and filing a lawsuit, it has received a ruling from the Supreme Court of Chile on the litigation. The court upheld the decision of the Chilean court, which dismissed the appeal request submitted by the company. This judgment represents the final ruling in the litigation. The Group stated that the dismissal of the appeal does not alter the assumptions related to the impairment test; therefore, it is anticipated that this litigation ruling will not have a material impact on the current period's profits for the time being. The Group will reserve all possible avenues to safeguard the company's rights and does not rule out taking further action. The Group indicated that SQM has disclosed that the pre-conditions for the merger of its subsidiary with Codelco's subsidiary have been resolved, allowing the transaction involved in the partnership agreement to take effect. Regarding the risks associated with the partnership agreement, the Group highlighted that these include SQM losing control over its core lithium business, potential impacts on SQM's lithium business revenue which could in turn affect the Group's investment returns and economic interests, and impacts on the Group's rights to participate in SQM's corporate governance.
