A female employee at a MINISO store in Changsha, Hunan, was recently denied a 500-yuan "injustice compensation" award after she confronted a shoplifter. The incident occurred on February 17 when the employee, identified as Ms. Duan, attempted to stop a thief and was subsequently insulted and slapped. Ms. Duan also fought back during the altercation. On the same day, the store manager offered her a 66-yuan red packet as consolation and indicated that an application for the injustice compensation would be submitted to the company. However, on March 26, the manager informed Ms. Duan that her request had been rejected. The company stated that since the employee had retaliated and the customer was also harmed, the situation did not meet the criteria for the compensation award. In April 2024, MINISO Group Holding Limited internally issued a notice regarding the establishment of a 500-yuan injustice compensation fund for store employees who suffer physical assault by customers. Ms. Duan has since resigned from her position. On March 26, the involved MINISO store stated that compensation matters had been discussed with Ms. Duan in person and suggested that further inquiries be directed to her.
