World First: "Giant Kite" Achieves Power Generation at 4,000-Meter Altitude

In a landmark achievement, a new airborne wind energy system has successfully generated power at a 4,000-meter altitude, marking a global first for high-altitude wind technology.

Developed by Beijing-based Lingyi Yunchuan, the S4000 tethered airborne wind energy system was recently launched successfully at an altitude of 4,000 meters. This successful test signifies a critical transition for China's high-altitude wind power technology, moving from iterative research and development into practical, real-world engineering deployment.

The energy potential at high altitudes is estimated to be several times greater than that of ground-level wind farms. This innovative system offers versatile applications: it can be integrated into the grid to supplement green energy supplies, provide a reliable power source for remote mountainous and island regions, and even carry equipment to support the growing low-altitude economy.

This experimental success enriches the practical experience of new wind energy utilization in China. It holds significant practical value for enhancing clean energy supply capabilities in high-altitude regions and for refining the regional power system infrastructure to be more robust and sustainable.
