Abu Dhabi AI Firm G42 Explores Majority Stake Sale to US Companies to Secure Advanced Chip Access

Executives at Abu Dhabi-based artificial intelligence firm G42 have reportedly initiated preliminary discussions regarding the potential sale of a majority stake to an American enterprise. The move is aimed at securing a continued supply of high-end processors beyond next year, according to individuals familiar with the matter. Such a restructuring would represent a significant transformation of the company's current corporate framework.

G42, which was established roughly eight years ago under the oversight of an influential member of Abu Dhabi's royal family, was originally created to spearhead the emirate's first major push into the technology sector. The firm recently secured approval to purchase cutting-edge AI chips without needing a US license, a privilege that is set to remain in effect until around April 2027. However, to continue accessing these processors beyond that period, the company would need to adjust its corporate structure.

Sources, who requested anonymity due to the confidential nature of the information, indicated that G42's leadership is currently weighing several options to resolve this obstacle. The proposals under discussion include potentially bringing in an American company as a majority shareholder, or establishing an entirely new entity within the United States. No definitive decision has been made at this stage, and a representative for G42 declined to offer any comment on the matter.
