Tesla Partners with SpaceX and xAI to Construct World's Largest Chip Plant

Tesla announced that, in collaboration with SpaceX and artificial intelligence firm xAI, it is building the largest chip manufacturing facility in history. The plant, with an annual capacity of one terawatt, will integrate logic chips, memory chips, and advanced packaging technologies.

To maximize solar energy utilization, the project requires launching 100 million tons of solar energy capture equipment into space annually.

This endeavor demands massive deployment capabilities: the capacity to launch millions of tons of materials into orbit; solar-powered AI satellites; and the involvement of millions of Tesla Optimus robots in the construction process.

All of this equipment relies on chip support: the Optimus robots alone will require 100 to 200 gigawatts of chips, while the solar AI satellites will need terawatt-level chip supplies.

This demand far exceeds the combined production capacity of all current global chip manufacturers and is projected to remain unmet even by 2030 based on current growth forecasts. Tesla is establishing this terawatt factory specifically to bridge the gap between existing chip production capabilities and future requirements—a future envisioned for interplanetary civilization.
