Trump Signals Possible Escalation of Iran Strikes After Midterms, Calls Fed Rate Hikes "Very Bad"

President Donald Trump has indicated that the United States could intensify its military strikes against Iran following the November midterm elections. At the same time, he expressed dissatisfaction with the Federal Reserve's ongoing path of interest rate increases.

Trump revealed this information during a media interview on Thursday. With the conflict now in its eighth month, the U.S. government is struggling to find an exit strategy. Trump rejected a recent Iranian proposal aimed at securing U.S. concessions, and noted that ramping up bombing after the election is "possible."

On monetary policy, Trump explicitly stated that the Federal Reserve's continued rate hikes are "very bad." Although he defended Fed Chairman Warsh, he blamed the rise in borrowing costs on Fed officials appointed by the previous administration, and reiterated that the United States should have the lowest interest rates in the world.

These remarks directly touch on the core economic issues currently affecting voters and investors. Because the war has driven up energy prices, American household budgets are under pressure, and Trump also pointed out that the current rate hikes stem more from concerns about inflation than from a reflection of U.S. economic strength.

Possible Military Escalation Against Iran After the Election

As the November midterm elections approach, Trump's Republican Party is facing a difficult challenge in maintaining control of Congress.

In recent weeks, Trump has said he believes Iran is employing delaying tactics in diplomatic negotiations, aiming to wait and see the election outcome. According to reports, the U.S. president previously rejected an Iranian proposal that offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the United States ending its blockade of Iranian ports or easing oil sanctions.

When pressed during the interview about which targets would be hit if bombing resumed, Trump declined to provide details. In addition, he downplayed concerns about U.S. ammunition stockpiles, saying the United States has "plenty of weapons," including lower-grade weapons. He emphasized that the United States possesses highly powerful intermediate and upper-intermediate munitions that are stronger than ever before.

Criticism of the Fed's Rate Hike Path

When assessing the domestic macroeconomic environment, Trump directed his criticism at the Federal Reserve's tightening cycle.

In the interview, he said the Fed's continued rate hikes are unsatisfactory, but he also clarified that he "doesn't blame Kevin," referring to current Fed Chairman Warsh.

Trump believes that what is driving the rate hikes are Fed members appointed by previous administrations. He expressed to the media his view of how current economic data is being interpreted, noting that "good data" for the economy now instead leads to higher borrowing costs.

On inflation and debt issues, Trump offered his perspective in the interview. He said that higher interest rates are due to concerns about inflation, rather than reflecting the actual strength of the U.S. economy. At the same time, he added that "a certain level of inflation will also pay off that debt very quickly."
