SpaceX's artificial intelligence division, SpaceXAI, and the programming tools company Cursor are planning to jointly release their first co-developed AI model as early as this Wednesday, posing a direct challenge to Anthropic and OpenAI.

According to an internal memo obtained on July 7th, the release of this model was previously delayed as both companies sought to further enhance its operational efficiency.

The memo states that the model is expected to possess rapid information processing capabilities and could compete with Anthropic's Opus 4.8 and OpenAI's GPT-5.5 on certain benchmarks.

This release timing coincides with the advancement of SpaceX's all-stock acquisition of Cursor valued at $60 billion, signaling an accelerated integration of Musk's AI portfolio and poised to directly impact the current competitive landscape for large language models.

Efficiency Optimization is Central to the New AI Model

Reports indicate the core advantage of the model planned for release by the two companies lies in its information processing speed, with competitive capabilities in specific dimensions against leading mainstream models.

Cursor's CEO, Michael Truell, previously revealed at a company customer event that Cursor is developing an AI model trained from scratch in xAI's Colossus data center, with the goal of directly competing against models from Anthropic and OpenAI.

Colossus is a large-scale AI computing infrastructure independently built by xAI. The training of this joint model was completed on this platform, demonstrating SpaceX's deep integration capabilities in computing resources.

SpaceX is acquiring Cursor in an all-stock deal valued at $60 billion, and the release of this joint model is seen as a key strategic outcome of this transaction.

Musk publicly stated last month that employees from SpaceX and Tesla are currently testing this jointly developed model, sending a clear signal of imminent commercial deployment.

Analysts believe that if the model's performance is validated by the market, it will further strengthen SpaceX's competitive position in the AI programming tools arena and exert substantial pressure on the market share held by Anthropic and OpenAI among developer communities.
