The CSPC PHARMA (01093) group has announced that its developed recombinant shingles vaccine, designated SYS6052, has received approval from China's National Medical Products Administration to commence clinical trials within the country.

This vaccine represents the company's first recombinant protein vaccine product to gain approval for clinical study. It is composed of the varicella-zoster virus gE protein antigen paired with a novel nano-adjuvant system developed internally by the group.

By optimizing both the antigen and the nano-adjuvant system, the product is designed to induce a robust immune response, encompassing both humoral and cellular immunity. This aims to provide a broader range of preventive options for the target population.

Preclinical research data has indicated that the vaccine exhibits a favorable safety profile and demonstrates promising efficacy.

The approved clinical indication is for the prevention of shingles and its associated complications in adults aged 50 years and older.
