Multiple EV Brands Respond to Headlight Voice Control Safety Concerns After Lynk Incident

Following a recent incident where the voice assistant in a Lynk Z20 accidentally turned off the vehicle's headlights, leading to a crash, concerns have been raised about similar features in other electric vehicle brands. Lynk stated that it has promptly optimized the voice control system, and now headlights can only be manually turned off while driving.

Media reports indicate that XPeng, Zeekr, and Deepal vehicles can also have their headlights turned off using specific voice commands. Some Zeekr and Deepal owners reported that saying "turn off all lights" while driving also switches off the headlights. XPeng owners mentioned that using quick commands in personalized settings can achieve the same result.

Zeekr customer service clarified that, to prevent safety risks from sudden exterior light deactivation at night, its EVA voice assistant does not support one-command full light shutdown. When the vehicle is stationary in Park mode, the driver can use commands like "turn off exterior lights" or "turn off headlights." To avoid accidental commands from passengers, voice control for headlights is restricted to the driver's seat and cannot be reconfigured.

XPeng customer service stated that the brand currently does not offer such functionality. Automatic control features may be limited by external conditions, and drivers should manually operate lights as needed based on road situations.

Deepal customer service responded that there is no relevant information available at this time.
