The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has stepped up its regulatory oversight of the automotive sector. From July 30 to 31, the Equipment Industry Department I of MIIT conducted on-site inspections at Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., NIO Inc., and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Corp., Ltd. (JAC), according to an official statement on the MIIT website on July 31.
The primary objective of these inspections was to further standardize the competitive order within the automotive industry and to enhance product consistency and quality safety levels. The checks focused on the product safety assurance capabilities and production consistency of road motor vehicle manufacturers. Key areas of inspection included the enterprises' intelligent connected vehicle safety assurance capabilities, design and development capabilities, and their ability to maintain production consistency—essentially, the conditions required to maintain production access.
During the process, authorities randomly selected sample vehicles and power batteries on-site. These samples were then sent to relevant institutions for compliance testing against national standards. The inspection underscores a broader effort to ensure that automakers are not only meeting safety benchmarks but also maintaining rigorous quality control across their production lines.
Looking ahead, the MIIT plans to collaborate with other departments to launch a deeper action aimed at improving the production consistency and quality of road motor vehicle products. This initiative will strengthen the review and management of 'radical' innovative design access approvals and testing verification processes. The Ministry will urge automobile and motorcycle manufacturers to conduct thorough self-assessments to identify potential product safety risks, enhance product testing, verification, and safety evaluations, and standardize their marketing and promotional activities. These measures are designed to firmly uphold the product safety bottom line and effectively safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of consumers.
