The board overseeing Washington Dulles Airport has greenlit a massive $19.9 billion overhaul plan, which allocates $3.75 billion toward constructing a new underground tunnel and replacing the slow-moving vehicles that currently ferry passengers across the tarmac. This decision came during a Wednesday vote by the governing body.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority confirmed that the main terminal rebuilding project, serving as the primary international gateway for the Washington D.C. region, will carry a price tag of $6.2 billion and is slated to commence in late 2027. Meanwhile, the tunnel project, designed to supersede the existing "AeroTrain" system and extend connectivity to a new concourse, is scheduled to break ground in early 2029, with completion projected for 2034.
