From September 19 to 20, Chinese singer-songwriter Silence Wang's 2026 "Tomorrow World" tour took the stage at the Guiyang Olympic Sports Center. The venue, which can hold more than 40,000 people, sold out both performances completely, drawing a large number of music fans to the city.

"Looking at it comprehensively, the overall effect of the two Silence Wang shows in Guiyang was particularly outstanding," said Liu Peng, chairman of the concert's organizer, Guizhou Yachen Tianyi Culture Media Co., Ltd. He noted that in terms of safety, reputation, cultural tourism appeal, and online reach, the Guiyang stop delivered strong results across the board.

Unlike performances in other cities, the Guiyang leg brought local Guizhou culture directly into the concert venue. The character "Da Cihua" adapted to local customs by wearing a Miao silver hat and collar and performing a folk dance. The organizers also prepared small gifts such as stickers and dolls featuring Guiyang elements. During the interaction segment, Wang jokingly described Guiyang locals as "both valuable and fashionable," and chatted about local delicacies like mutton rice noodles, beef rice noodles, and fish mint root.

"We hope the concert is not just a musical feast, but also a window to showcase Guiyang's urban charm. Fans travel from afar, and besides listening to music, they also want to immerse themselves in the city's vibrant atmosphere. So we brought city culture into the performance venue, allowing everyone to experience Guizhou's characteristics while waiting or during breaks," Liu Peng said. Based on on-site feedback, fans responded very positively. Many said this approach gave the concert a unique Guiyang memory, making them more willing to stay and explore the city in depth after the show.

"The concert was fantastic, and the support services were excellent. Guiyang is a warm city, and I give it a big thumbs up," said a female fan from Guangzhou named Chen. She also tried local specialties like sour fish soup and siwawa, finding them delicious, and said she would love to visit again.

During the performances, fans from Guizhou and across the country arrived in Guiyang, planning their transportation, accommodation, and show schedules in advance. The concert crowds also boosted spending at nearby hotels, restaurants, transportation, and commercial districts. Jiang Kaixiong, founder of the Qianli Intangible Cultural Heritage brand, said that during the concert period, foot traffic at the Qianli Non-Heritage Mei's Yueyue Square location increased by about one-third compared to usual days. Many concertgoers visited the store specifically after the show to experience Guizhou's local intangible cultural heritage projects.

"We seized the traffic opportunity brought by large-scale performing arts events, turning intangible heritage handicraft experiences into a leisure activity young people enjoy, allowing audiences to get a close-up feel of Guizhou's intangible heritage charm and converting performance traffic into cultural creative consumption," Jiang Kaixiong said.

This is just one example of Guiyang's developing live entertainment economy. How a single performance can energize an entire city is being repeatedly demonstrated here. From September to November, Guiyang's concert schedule is packed, with artists such as Yip Sai Wing, Chen Chusheng, Liu Zhe, Chen Li, Lao Lang, and Lee Hom Wang set to perform in succession.

Data shows that from the start of this year to mid-August, Guiyang has hosted 23 large-scale commercial performances, attracting 561,000 attendees. Out-of-province audiences accounted for 54.7% of the total, with box office revenue reaching 362 million yuan and driving approximately 2.013 billion yuan in related consumption. The city expects to host more than 45 large-scale commercial performances for the full year.

Liu Peng explained that over the past two years, Guiyang's performance market has grown remarkably. On one hand, local audiences have developed strong viewing habits with rising spending power. On the other, the city's supporting facilities, event approval processes, and on-site security systems have become increasingly mature, making the overall market environment more dynamic. Compared to the past, Liu Peng has noticed that more artists are now willing to choose Guiyang for their shows when negotiating partnerships elsewhere.

He said, "This change comes from a combination of multiple advantages: Guiyang's cool summers extend the golden season for outdoor performances; a large young population provides a solid fan base; and with government support for the cultural tourism and performing arts industry, Guiyang has become an important performance destination in Southwest China for artist teams."

To address the pain point of lengthy approval processes and drive high-quality development of the performance economy, Guiyang has innovatively implemented a chain leader system. This breaks down barriers among more than ten municipal and county-level departments, transforming traditional "sequential approval" into "parallel service." For key performances, the city has introduced a "3-day fast track" and "one-stop performance approval," which compresses review timelines. Additionally, through cross-regional tour procedure optimization, venue support, and full-chain security measures, top-tier shows can be "attracted in, landed quickly, and executed well."

A "2025 Guizhou Province Performance Market Analysis Report" released by Beijing Damai Culture Media Development Co., Ltd. shows that from 2023 to 2025, Guizhou's performance market grew rapidly, with box office revenue nearly doubling. Guiyang alone contributed 90% of the province's box office, with annual growth of 120% for two consecutive years. The provincial capital's leading effect is evident, as more top-tier artists choose Guiyang as a tour stop.

Statistics show that since 2023, Guiyang's annual large-scale concerts have increased from 10 to 41 in 2025, with large-scale commercial performances growing more than threefold over three years. These events have cumulatively attracted 2.468 million attendees and driven 10.8 billion yuan in related consumption. Currently, Guiyang ranks among the top ten cities nationwide for concert box office revenue and is developing an urban performance landscape characterized by "shows every week and themed events every month."
