U.S. stocks experienced a choppy but ultimately positive session on Monday. Although rising U.S. Treasury yields weighed on the market early on, a strong rally in technology shares lifted all three major indexes into positive territory by the close, with the Nasdaq Composite notching a fresh record high. The dollar held steady near elevated levels, the 10-year Treasury yield climbed to 5.3%, gold prices softened amid choppy trading, and oil prices edged lower.
Hong Kong's three major indexes all opened higher today. The Hang Seng Index rose 1% at the open to 24,279.63 points, the Hang Seng Tech Index gained 1.02%, and the State-Owned Enterprises Index advanced 0.99%.
On the board, internet stocks traded broadly higher, with Alibaba (BABA) shares up more than 2%, while Baidu, Meituan, and Bilibili each rose over 1%. Power equipment stocks opened higher, with Weichai Power up more than 1%. Innovative drug concept stocks gained broadly, as Wuxi AppTec (603259) climbed over 1%. Non-ferrous metals names were active, with Aluminum Corporation of China rising more than 1%.
