Intel Expands Stock Sale to $20 Billion, AI Sector Equity Financing Shows Strong Demand

Intel Corporation has increased the total proceeds from its stock offering to $20 billion, marking a one-third expansion from the target size officially announced on Monday. In a statement released on Tuesday, Intel said the share issuance was priced at $95 per share, with subscription and delivery expected to be completed by Wednesday. At this price, it represents a 6.5% discount from the stock's closing price last Friday. Earlier reports had indicated Intel's plans to raise the initial fundraising scale.

This financing transaction by Intel reflects a strong willingness among investors to absorb stocks in the artificial intelligence supply chain. The largest equity fundraising deals in the United States this year have all been undertaken by companies benefiting from the AI investment wave. Alphabet is raising up to $85 billion through various equity financing methods, including at-the-market offerings and equity-linked products. Oracle's financing plan also includes a $20 billion at-the-market offering. South Korean memory chip manufacturer SK Hynix raised $26.5 billion through its initial public offering of American depositary receipts, setting a new record for the largest fundraising scale by a foreign company listed on a U.S. exchange.

During Monday's regular trading session, Intel's stock price fell 4.1%, but it remained roughly flat in after-hours trading following the announcement. The stock has gained approximately 164% year-to-date. Since taking office, CEO Lip-Bu Tan has made improving Intel's financial position a core priority, successively bringing in U.S. government funding and even securing external investment from chip industry peers like Nvidia. Intel is continuously expanding its cash reserves with the aim of playing a more critical role in the AI wave. The global expansion of data centers has driven demand for its general-purpose processors, but in the AI chip market, Intel has struggled to directly compete with Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). Additionally, Intel needs capital to expand its network of wafer fabrication plants, fulfilling its strategic goal of becoming the tech industry's outsourced manufacturing hub. Earlier filings showed that JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Citigroup are serving as underwriters for this stock offering.
