Movement Alert|iShares Silver ETF Falls 5.42% in Pre-Market Trading, Silver Prices Plunge as Fed Rate Hike Expectations Intensify

On June 24, iShares Silver ETF (SLV) fell 5.42% in pre-market trading, trading at $52.64/share, with turnover of $46.45 million. The decline follows a broad precious metals selloff triggered by heightened Federal Reserve hawkish expectations and tightening trading conditions.

On the news front, Bank of America projected three Fed rate hikes of 25 basis points each in September, October, and December. CME FedWatch data showed traders pricing in an 89% probability of a December rate hike, sharply higher than before last week's Fed meeting. Spot silver had already plunged 4.80% on June 23, breaking below $62/oz, while spot gold fell 2.35% below $4,100/oz.

Simultaneously, multiple Chinese commercial banks collectively raised margin requirements for personal precious metals deferred contracts to as high as 140%, with some institutions fully exiting the business. Guangfa Bank announced plans to shut down all personal precious metals trading by month-end, while Industrial and Commercial Bank of China will cease operations by late July. Analysts noted that single-day swings exceeding $100 in gold have become routine, prompting banks to aggressively de-leverage to prevent cascading margin calls.

The Trust seeks to reflect the performance of silver prices before payment of the Trust's expenses and liabilities. It is not actively managed and does not engage in any activities designed to obtain a profit from, or to ameliorate losses caused by, changes in the price of silver.
