A reporter inquired about the WTO's release of a panel report on July 28 (Geneva time) regarding China's dispute over Turkish restrictions on electric vehicles and other vehicles. What is China's comment on this?

China has taken note that the WTO has circulated the panel report in the case "Turkey — Measures Concerning the Importation of Electric and Other Vehicles" (DS629). The panel supported China's claims, ruling that the Turkish measures in question violate WTO rules. China welcomes this ruling.

Since 2023, Turkey has imposed restrictive measures on Chinese exports of electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and other automobiles, including additional tariffs and import licensing requirements. These measures violate multilateral trade rules such as bound tariffs, national treatment, and most-favored-nation treatment, seriously damaging China's legitimate trade interests and bilateral economic relations between China and Turkey.

China urges Turkey to respect the WTO panel's ruling and take concrete actions to rectify its WTO-inconsistent measures as soon as possible. At the same time, China firmly pursues a mutually beneficial and win-win opening-up strategy and resolutely upholds the multilateral trading system centered on the WTO. China is willing to continuously enhance the quality and level of trade and investment cooperation with all parties in areas such as new energy vehicles, on the basis of conformity with multilateral trade rules, to achieve common development.
