Shares of CRRC (HKEX: 01766) have climbed more than 4%, gaining 3.46% at the time of writing to trade at HK$4.79, with a turnover of HK$37.14 million.

The catalyst for the move is an announcement from the company. CRRC disclosed that on July 20, 2026, it received a notice from its controlling shareholder, CRRC Group. The group plans to increase its holdings of the company's A-shares over the next six months through methods permitted by the Shanghai Stock Exchange trading system. The intended buyback amount is between RMB 150 million and RMB 300 million.

Analysts have provided commentary on the company's performance. Changjiang Securities noted that for the first quarter of 2026, CRRC's non-GAAP net profit grew by 12.70% year-on-year. The actual quarter was impacted by RMB appreciation, which resulted in foreign exchange losses; excluding these effects, the growth in actual operating performance was even stronger.

Focusing on the core business, the firm pointed out that for the core high-speed train unit business, new-build deliveries in Q1 this year showed a certain increase compared to the same period last year. Deliveries for the high-speed train sets procured through the 2025 China State Railway Group tender have been completed.

Looking ahead for the sector, the brokerage believes that railway transportation has maintained a growth trend since the beginning of the year. New procurement tenders from China State Railway Group have gradually commenced, which is expected to provide support for the full-year performance of CRRC's railway equipment division.
